We have a special system used to generate Juice card numbers. While the capacity to create these numbers is within Juice, it is not a normal menu item and we restrict it's access.
The scratch-off numbers on Juice cards are generated by Juice. It's important to coordinate with the printer so they can be generated when the order for printing is received. The printing process should be monitored very carefully and securely. Making sure the printer involved is trustworthy is essential, they are practically printing money. If a local printer is used, the plain text version of the numbers needs to be handled very carefully. Specifically it should never be emailed in plain text. For security reasons, we recommend the serial and scratch off numbers should be delivered as an encrypted file.
When the cards are delivered to the utility and receipt of all cards is confirmed, we load the received cards into the utilities system. They are still inactive. This is done to avoid a large number of active scratch cards because people will (we have seen it happen) randomly generate numbers to try to credit their account or get a token.
As cards are distributed, they are activated during the sales process. The utilities commercial manager has access to a screen to activate batches of cards. This is normally done in batches to thwart theft and is where the serial numbers come in. For example, the head cashier or commercial manager might activate cards from serial number 1000 to 2000 with a value of 20,000.00. Those cards can then be sold, distributed, and used. If they are activated, then lost or stolen, they can be deactivated in Juice. Cards have an expiration date controlled in the Juice server that can be extended as needed.
NOTE: We can flip a switch so that if stolen cards are used they generate a clear credit token. Utiliflex is able to assist in the generation, design, and procurement of scratch cards.
